Fabricia Lepoutre — Biography & Background

Born in 1961 in Quito, Ecuador, Fabricia Lepoutre spent part of her childhood and teenage years in South Africa. Her journey then took her to Paris and to the United States, where she continued her artistic education.

In 1980, she attended the preparatory year at ESAG Penninghen in Paris.

From 1981 to 1984, she studied at the Ringling School of Art and Design, an art school in Sarasota, Florida. There she trained in illustration, drawing and composition, graduating with a diploma in illustration in 1984.

Back in France in 1987, she developed her work as a painter.

In 1994, she moved to Guadeloupe for a year, continuing to paint throughout her time there.

On returning from Guadeloupe, Fabricia Lepoutre resumed her painting practice in northern France. She also taught English and painting to children.

Her exhibition history began to take shape in the 1990s: Galerie Septentrion in Bondues in July 1993, followed by the cultural centre in Pont-l’Abbé in May 1996, the Salon des peintres in Templeuve in October 1997 and Galerie Sylvie Jeant in Lille in May 1998. Over the years, her works were then shown in La Rochelle, Tournai, Paris and at various galleries and art fairs in France and Belgium.

Meeting an interior designer and decorator marked a turning point in her career. From 2007 to 2016, together they refurbished a very large house in Cysoing, near Lille, transforming it into a venue for exhibitions and gatherings that welcomed artists from northern France, Paris and beyond.

This setting for artistic exchange stimulated her creativity. She took part in an increasing number of art fairs and exhibitions, gradually bringing her work to wider audiences in France and abroad.

In 2017, she settled in Brittany. In Bénodet, she purchased premises that she transformed into a gallery, opening L’Atelier de Fabri in 2018. For several years, this riverside space on the Odet welcomed visitors to discover her paintings. Every summer, Thursday evening openings brought artists and collectors together, making the gallery a place for conversation and exchange.

She subsequently continued her work in Pont-l’Abbé, where her studio remains today.

In Pont-l’Abbé, Le Pont des Images gallery, run by photographer and gallerist Philippe Beasse, now permanently displays a selection of works by Fabricia Lepoutre. This new exhibition venue complements visits to her studio, where she welcomes visitors by appointment.

A world full of life

Interiors, tables, chairs, doors and windows play a central role in her painting. Familiar objects seem to converse, perspectives come alive, and houses open onto gardens, the sea and the sky.

Boats, lighthouses, villages and coastal landscapes extend this world. Movement runs through her compositions: trees bend, skies stir, and lines draw the eye onward. Her paintings evoke places lived in, memories and shared moments.

Permanent exhibition — Galerie Arnaud Bard, Honfleur

Since January 2025, Fabricia Lepoutre has been among the artists shown on a permanent basis at Galerie Arnaud Bard in Honfleur. Several of her paintings have joined collections in France and abroad.

Her work is exhibited alongside a selection of French and international contemporary artists, including Gordon Hopkins, Florent Chopin, Manolo Chrétien, Philippe Sabin, Arnaud Kasper, Jean Isnard and Elia Pagliarino.

Founded in 1987, the gallery champions a personal approach to contemporary art, attentive to each artist’s individuality and to the emotions their work evokes. Arnaud Bard, a former sculptor from a family of artists, describes himself as a “passeur d’émotion” — someone who brings the emotion of art to others.

His approach is rooted in encounters: first between the gallerist and the artist, then between the public and the works. The gallery brings together emerging and established artists, selected for the strength of their artistic worlds and the quality of their work. It values dialogue and helps visitors discover a work of art to live with.

It is in this spirit that Fabricia Lepoutre’s paintings are presented to visitors and collectors.

The Salon d’Automne, Paris — 2011

In 2011, Fabricia Lepoutre was selected to exhibit at the Salon d’Automne in Paris.

Founded in 1903 at the initiative of architect Frantz Jourdain, the Salon sought to champion innovative artists in the face of academic conventions. In 1905, the bold colours of Matisse and the painters soon known as the “Fauves” caused a scandal that became a landmark in the history of modern art.

This legacy makes the Salon d’Automne one of the emblematic historic salons of Parisian artistic life.
